Happy Dhanteras 2017! May the divine light of the Diyas bring joy and happiness into your life, deterring the evil & the bad luck. Enjoy spending time with your family this Diwali.
WHAT IS DHANTERAS?
Dhanteras is the first day of the Diwali festival celebrations which last 5 days in total. The word “Dhanteras” originates from “Dhan” (wealth) and “Teras” (the 13th day). It is being celebrated on the 13th day of the month Ashvin in the Hindu lunar calendar. Its observance includes prayers to Goddess Lakshmi for wealth and well-being and the purchase of precious metals such as Gold and Silver. It is believed that this kind of new ‘Dhan’ brings luck and prosperity.
HOW IS DHANTERAS 2017 BEING CELEBRATED?
People renovate their houses, clean them thoroughly, and decorate house entrances with Rangolis and Diyas. Some people draw small footprints on the floor to guide Goddess Lakshmi the way to their house, using fine colored powders. The night before Dhanteras people are singing songs and “Lakshmi Puja” is performed, making her offerings in form of foods and sweets for worshiping.
